Asylum Based Immigration

If you have been persecuted in the past, or if you have a well-founded fear of being persecuted in the future, you may have a claim for asylum in the U.S., if you are presently in the U.S, or you may have a refugee claim, if you are not in the U.S.

If you are in the U.S. and have an asylum claim, it is important to know that you have to ask for asylum quickly, usually within one year of arriving in the U.S. unless you can show extenuating circumstances.
